Lest I create the impression that in 1962 I became a relentless crusader 
against nuclear madness, I should admit that four years later I had a 
summer job surveying basements as potential fallout shelter sites -- the 
very program that placed those supplies. As the prospective sites were 
in Manhattan, and would have been part of a broad new Hudson estuary had 
the balloon gone up, it was a sick joke... but I did take the money.
