To All pynchoin listers:
Great books, or just good flawed books, or even bad books should open the world to us in some way or they are just like crosword or sudoku puzzles (which is not to diss them for what they are and bring us), in my vision of literature.
Attached is a short e-mail from a close friend of mine, a good reader, who has not, however, read Against the Day. She also loves her garden.
I have had an easy work week (compared to some others--those Against the Day weeks that we all have)) and have been able to be out in the beautiful weather where I am as well. Just walking in it makes me think of this in Pynchon.......a garden inside a courtyard, as he writes more than once......
I thought this captured something of (part of) Pynchon's vision of The Day, of life (at bottom), for The Day which so much of History is Against....
Maybe this-- and a witty flame war--- will return us all to ATD?
Peace,
Mark K.
