I think what makes the difference b/w this read and the M&D one is that back
in 97, we didn't have wikis and other reference tools available like today.
also, the chapters in M&D were shorter and easily manageable than the longer
slices contained within AtD.
p.s anyone see Tideland, Terry Gilliam's last movie, mostly condemned by
critics, but I found quite interesting--a way to show childish
wonder/fear/resilency without being trite, condescending, or necessarily
moral. there are aspects of Pynchon's fiction like the secret integration
and atd that are able to bridge the same gap.
