I came to Pynchon via Gravity's Rainbow, which was found so offensive
it was denied a Pulitzer, and which's National Book Award was
recepted by Irwin C. Corey, so it has been surprising to me that the
Pynchon list (moreso now than earlier) is dominated by rather prissy
folks having more in common with the Pulitzer people than Irwin C.
Corey. My god, people get in such a tizzy about alleged rudeness and
negativity. We are discussing an author who dispenses imagery of
slurping down turds and fucking damsels doing the four corners hokey
pokey, and we get such a reaction to rather tame discourse. The
exegesis here often seems more like a vasectomy or a lobotomy of this
man's outrageous art.
