I've started Penrose's behemothic 'The Road to Reality' which treats most of 
AtD's science subjects and much more, but I cannot advise it unless you've 
studied college level maths (which I haven't, so I'm reading it 
ill-advisedly). Paradoxically enough I am quite hooked on this book, so I 
continue to slog on at a snail's pace and sometimes I do have that Eurika 
moment.
