Monte (replying to musings on dragon's teeth and muffins):

>-- think of the "loaves of bread" that will be lined up in a dark Berlin
>street, when spring and Rokossovsky have warmed the _ofen_.

>Pynchon at work in the night kitchen

And while we're on the topic of sinister baked goods, check out this bit of
information about the production and distribution of the V-2:

"Logistic changes under code name 'warme Semmel' (English: hot cakes)
resulted in movement of V-2 trains directly from the Nordhausen plant to
firing-unit railheads for field storage until operational batteries needed
resupplied."

The detail derives from Dornberger's book on the V-2 (one of Pynchon's major
sources for GR), but I stole it from Wikipedia's excellent article on the
Mittelwerke:

Turns out Wikipedia has a number of interesting pages on the V-2 and related
topics, with plenty of pictures. I just finished rereading GR together with
the updated Weisenburger Companion, and Wikipedia proved to be a very
valuable companion as well, particularly the many images to be found in the
articles. See for instance the shocking color photo in this article on the
Dora camp, as well as the B/W image of the tunnel entrance to the
Mittelwerke:

And see also this article on the V-2 itself:
