             Mark Kohut:
So I’m wondering if anyone has any idea,
either suspicion or gleaned from some
             source somewhere, about TRP’s feelings
about Kabbalah. While reading GR, it
seems like he parodies it entirely but he
does it with … what I could only describe
as some perverse respect… while he
seems to poke fun… it seems like the fun
             an insider would poke.

Yes. I think he's even more into the (?)aballah than anyone else I've
read who issues forth publications labled: "Fiction" (with the possible
exception of Borges). Harold Bloom calls himself a Kabbalist and says
the Trystero really exists (after re-reading COL 49 [after going through
this section of AtD], I agree). Pynchon has just unmasked one of his
biggest influences in the section we're about to finish, capisce?

Lon Milo DuQuette is a real maven on the (*)aballah, and he's also a non-stop jokster.
