Given Pynchon's knowledge of and take on science and technology, this perhaps-too-obvious observation might be made about this/these ancient alchemical sources:
   
  Most scholars would say that, historically, that these sources come from the time when science and alchemy were THE SAME, ONE.  
   
  That matters, needless to say.
