So where in the world is Hal Hartley?

Lynch - the presence of an absence. I agree with most of the others, just
threw in (what I consider obvious) the choice of Lynch cause he wasn't
listed.

I don't really think there is much in common with TRP - but have been
trying to get Hartley DVDs recently and was very surprised to discover
nothing in print and a 2ndhand copy of Unbelievable Truth all that was
available in European format.
Which directors do you peeps think actually *do* have things in common with
Pyncho?
- Gilliam for his fantastic worlds and dark screwball humor?
- Altman for the enormous casts of characters? or shit what about early
Linklater, like Slacker-era?
- Pasolini has the deviant sexuality I guess
- Keaton or Chaplin for the slapstick?
- Fellini's stuff seems to have some sort of spiritual likeness (cf.
conclusion of 8 1/2; hell, the whole thing), but his films are a little to
self-concerned
WAIT; how about Jodorowsky?? That's my choice right now. Hallucinatory
craziness, inscrutability, deep layers mythic references, and I think
there's some humor in his stuff, no? I've laughed during El Topo
Thoughts?
