A Reader's Hunch about critics

I have a hunch that critics have to read too many novels too quickly,
so they're bothered by large tomes. They oversimplify difficult texts
because they don't have time for depth and complexity, and are not
capable of writing novels of their own. They need to sound smart, so
they hominemize, homogenize, and over-generalize any readership with
the intelligence and time to enjoy difficult texts.
