Even still, I've always seen him more as a literary novelist,
always and ever nodding to various other authors,
conforming to and commenting on various critical trends,
and suggesting others. He overtly mentions lots of writers,
and hints at still more, providing a trail worth following.
Oops, sorry, never mentioned that did I, ever so sorry, really. It was always
so obvious to me that the magpie voice of Our Beloved Author was bouncing
off of other authors, if only to complete a pun. He has put a spell on us---or
me, at least---but it's a spell that harkens to Borges and Dee, ultimate
librarians wandering through the ultimate libraries, jotting down bibliomantic
notes as they stroll through the stacks, raising dust as they slam shut the
covers of the tomes that are then recovered.
