Hultkrans apparently wrote his thesis on The Crying of Lot 49.  As far
as Pynchon himslef goes, it's mostly namedropping, but there are some
pretty interesting observation on the album's lyrics, not to mention
Arthur Lee's (R.I.P.) life, via a vis Puritanism (Hultkrans studied
under Sacvan "The American Jeremiad" Bercovitch) and gnosticism.  Me,
I liked it, so ...
