Reminder to myself (and others who might want?) re paranoia

listening to radio talk about Nixon, Johnson and some others,
I was lead to rememember, reremember? re paranoia:

There is paranoia among the Elect as well as the Preterite.

Nixon was as paranoid as any sympathetic Pynchon character---
to preserve his power, his place, his role in the world as he saw it.
