http://socal-raves.org/html-email.html#gmail
says that
Google Mail (GMail)
When composing a message, there's a line just above the message-text
entry box that has Bold and Italic and Underline symbols...on the end
is a blue link that says << Plain text. Click that, and the whole line
changes to Rich formatting >>. When it displays Rich formatting >>,
you'll send plain text. (i.e. it's displaying the thing to switch back
to rich formatting, which of course can't be done in plain text, only
in HTML.)
clear as mud: the Bill Gates school of user interface - put the
"stop" command in the "start" menu, of course...
by the same token, when you are sending plain text, make sure the hot link
says "rich formatting" and vice versa
(ok, it's a toggle, not that hard to understand,
once you know that it's counterintuitive)
sending this, will next check the archive to see how it looks
