Well, I suspect there is much coded family history in Our Beloved Author's work. 
That does not remove the poetics, the quality of language or the fun of 
Pynchon's writing. But there are moral lessons in Pynchon's writings, and good 
reasons why he picks the subjects he embroiders upon.

I'm thinking of the Q-weapon, how the element of time turns on those who use 
the Q-weapon, how it eventually destroys them. . . .
