For a decade now, I've subscribed to four listserves: Milton-L, which used
to be quite active and has in the past few years dribbled down to about a
posting a month; Ishmail, a Melville listserve that is somewhat active
depending on the topic (but often dominated by a pretentious prof who
constantly hawks her one and only book); and Dickns-L, a modorated list that
is perhaps the most scholarly of the three. And the P-List, obviously.
Of these four, we're the only ones who have done organized group reads.
Several years ago, however, I came across a James Joyce listserve that was
attempting to read one page of _Finnegans Wake_ per week. An intriguing
idea, but that was way too slow for my liking.
