Norman Mailer, requiescat in pace ...

I have always been fond of Why Are We In Vietnam?
a short novel indebted to Faulkner's The Bear about
a hunting trip by two Texas "boys" and thereby a
sidelong look at America gone to war.

maybe not 10,000 words (as I remember someone on the
list predicting) but a sizable and suitable Times obit.

I had just read his most recent, the Hitler book.
It was a good read - portrait of the dictator...

I was hoping my "reading juju" would extend his life --
must get reading juju tuned up (memo to self)

I had the feeling he actually had more ideas for following this
and may be available for consultation by appropriate medium...
after he settles in an appropriate bardo

One thing he did, which is fairly unusual for a novel,
is to append a bibliography.

I looked at "Why are we in Vietnam?" last night in
Border's but decided it was not my kinda book.
I was thinking it would be a factual sort of thing
but seems like quite the reverse was true.
Very wild fiction, and maybe an inspiration to
P in the buildup to GR?
