Mos def. The sagas tell us they had run-ins with "skraelings," maybe of the
same Abnaki - Micmac - Algonquin group my place in northern Maine was stolen
from (after they doubtless stole it from someone else). It's anyone's guess
how much of a role that played in the abandonment of the venture, as against
weather, or crop troubles, or lack of support from Greenland/Scandinavia, or
just inadequate numbers.
 
But there's gotta be a connection between that and the Yuroks at the end of
Vineland, when Vond gets his deus-ex-machina comeuppance and everything
turns out fairy-tale fine in the enchanted forest.
