Fw: most beautiful novel opening

I want to say, YES, to CofL49 because this
is the p-list and pynchon will not be fully explored
before I am dead so I want to keep on reading and rereading.

I read other stuff for refracted light and perspective, balance and sanity
so maybe Moby Dick elsewhere if we still want.

Yes, all the lit crit out there on it bothers me--and I know some of it---but
we can ignore what we don't know or what we want---and/or judge what
illumines or obfuscates in other lit crit.....

Only problem is with MD, is that there's already too much lit crit on it. I
may have chimed in earlier in this string that it would be a good idea...
But now I've changed my mind. I wouldn't be participaing at any rate, but
y'all go ahead, not that I'm any help much as it is. But I would like a
group read of COL49 actually, if that's up in the shortlist anywhere. I'm
savoring the last few pages of ATD right now. I listened to the recording
all the way through like 3 months ago, but the last few pages of ATD
visually read, are &(*^&ng amazing.

Apropos of a group read of Moby Dick, which could be a lot of fun, I'll note
that the book has short, clearly named chapters, which would make it easy to
organize, notwithstanding that there may be many different versions floating
around out there.

          Daniel Julius:
I would be very interested in a Moby Dick
group read after ATDTDA. Does that sound
like something you other folks might like?
Don't know if it'd be as divisive as Pale
Fire...but. And I guess it could be
harder to maintain stringent citational accuracy,
as there are one million different editions of the
          book out there...but.

I'm keen on a Three-month jog-trot through 'The Crying of Lot 49', what with

this heap of Pynchon & Co. material piling up. Right after or during that
examination of the Company's books we need to take a closer look at Marge
Simpson's 'The Harpooned Heart' and in particular, the Homer & Marge Simpson

collaboration on "Who Killed JFK?". After The Harpooned Heart group read
we'll
be ready for Melville.
