In the April 1957 issue of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Cornell University Professor of Philosophy, E.A. Burtt, author of the classic Metaphysical Foundations of Modern Science, called for a 'revolutionary' change in the way we viewed science and the scientific method. The article was entitled Critique of "Pure" Science.
"Briefly, [Burtt] challenges the assumption that science is progressively unveiling a picture of the 'real' world---a world which, as its character becomes clearer, human beings will have to adjust to, whatever that character turns out to be."[6]
