I certainly wasn't involved in the decision process ("our" 
deliberate choices? not me! I would say, like the Denis 
Johnson character, "fugdat shit") - but I know what you mean.  
The propaganda ideal of America as a bastion of freedom and 
a restrained military keeping the peace - versus the reality 
of dictator-propping, civilian-bombing.  It's really a 
rather breathtaking cognitive dissonance when you've been 
brought up to sincerely believe the image.

this is actually what AtD is about, or, better (as if it's 
only "about" one thing), this is the moment in history it's 
built around, I think: the handing of the imperialist baton 
to the US...
