Interesting indeed. It's been a quite long time since I last took a look at
Brian McHale's "Postmodernist Fiction", but I don't think he mentions the
Jarryan/Lopezian
"pataphor" when he speaks of how metaphors get literalized in Po-Mo fiction.
(Maybe Lopez coined it only after PF was published.) As examples of these
"hypertrophies" Brian gives at least a story by Barthelme, and the famous
"Living inside the System is like riding across the country in a bus driven by
a maniac bent on suicide..." passage from GR.
