Kathy Acker

Based on this thread a few weeks ago, I scored a copy of Acker's _Great Expectations_ and read it.

It strikes me as kind of a female William Burroughs ... the obscenity is punk and quaint. In general, it was an okay book, but nothing I'd consider earth-shattering ... but maybe it's a product of its time of publication (early Eighties) and was pretty ground-breaking back then. I've often felt the same disappointment with _On The Road_ ... no doubt amazing for its own time period, but pretty tame in retrospect.

What would you recommend for someone who would *like* to know what all the hoopla re: Acker is about, but wasn't impressed with _Great Expectations_ ?
