          Laura:
          The toughest sequences for me were 
          1.Cyprian in the Balkans; 
          2.Cyprian, Yashmeen and Reef in the Balkans.  
          This was TRP's oblique way of writing about WWI I 
          guess, (possibly about math?),but the sequences 
          were long and repetitive.  Hope 
          they'll improve on the second read.

My particular fascination with those passages probably has more than a little to 
do with past experience with Bulgarian music [and to a limited extent, culture]. 
My ex was the singer/manager of a group that performed Koutev/Perin/RTV 
Bulgaria Choir arrangements of Bulgarian and other Balkan/Russian musics.
