         David Morris:
I say this Cyprian-Venus connection is not accidental,
especially since Pynchon references Venus in both V & GR.

          Michael J. Hußmann:
Although Yashmeen in her capacity as having been spied
upon while bathing would be Artemis/Diana, even when
N&N lived to tell the tale, contrary to Actaeon who was turned
into a stag and killed by his own hounds. But everything
          considered, Aphrodite/Venus probably fits best.

But don't forget [as well]:

"Allow us," said Nigel, "to introduce Miss—Or actually, as she's a
seventeenth-degree Adept, one ought properly to say 'Tzaddik',
          except that obviously—"

"Well blimey, it's really only old Yashmeen, isn't it," added Neville.
          221

"Tzaddik" - (pl. "Tzadikkim"); a righteous man (for the female
equivalent, see "Tzidkanit") - based on the Hebrew word
"Tzedek," or Justice. The Jewish hero is not the swashbuckling
warrior, but rather the "Tzaddik," the "mighty warrior" who
conquers his "evil inclinations," towards pride, power and
oppression, and practices righteousness and humility, and who
is, like G-d, always on "the side of the oppressed."
("Kohelet," or Ecclesiastes 3:15) Examples were the three
"Avot," the forefathers of the Jewish People, Avraham,
Yitzchak and Yaakov, who exemplified what a person can be.

          Aleister Crowley and the Star

The story goes that Crowley was in contact with an
extra-dimensional entity (Aiwaz), who told him, in the
course of things, "All these old letters of my Book are
aright; but tzaddi is not the Star." Crowley took this to
mean that the Star trump is not in its correct place,
and thus does not correspond to the Hebrew letter. . . .

Review of Magick : Liber Aba : Book 4

This book is certainly a classic of sorts; Crowley has
spawned a stagnant pond full of imitators, but none
will ever match his wit, intelligence, originality and
genius for prose writing. By all means, if you're someone
who needs a self-image as a person who is seeking
enlightenment of some kind but wants to look cool and
dangerous doing it, buy this inspired drivel and convince
yourself it works, assuming you're one of the few actually
dull enough to read it all. . . .

The Atbash Cipher: Re-ordering the Major Arcana

Encoded within the Atbash cipher is an elegant solution
to the transpositions of Major cards carried out by both
the Golden Dawn and Aleister Crowley. It explains why
the Golden Dawn transposition of Justice and Strength
is accepted almost without comment, and why there is
never-ending confusion as to the transposition of the
Star and Emperor cards in the Book of Thoth without
entering into complex arguments involving Moebius
strips and astrology. The new ordering of the Atbash
cipher based upon the Golden Dawn and Book of Thoth
an be used as the basis of further research into Gematria.

There is a great deal of gender mixing in the whole Cyprian/Yashmeen
match-up. Gotta wonder about Tommy boy there. . .
