"Really Traverse you know you must abandon this farcical existence,
rededicate yourself to real-world issues such as family vendetta,
which though frowned upon by the truly virtuous represents even so
a more productive use of your own precious time on Earth than the
aimless quest to get one's ashes hauled, more likely in your case
to result in death by irate Hungarian than anything of more lasting value..."

now some might detect in this voice from above the
sort of benzedrine-inspired earnest (& Julio?) exhortations
that although Kerouac may have interpolated some of in
_On the Road_ and other ... (lost the thread -- er, ah...)

...exhortations which one imagines Dean and Sal exchanging,
"heartbreaking new friends" as Kerouac sez,
perhaps tweaked to greater effect when JK wrote them down...

anyway, this 2nd appearance of the voice of his invisible
mentor (the 1st was in the train in the tunnel) is perhaps related
to the voice of his father that he hallucinated on the trip
home from Jeshimon

I'd suggest OBA is thinking of Reef as a proto-proto-hipster,
and the flourishing nod to Kerouac signifies...umm...
I really do have some thoughts but they are so sketchy
I will have to hold them against the day when more datapoints
come into my purview

-------------------------
Remember, Reef's "rounder Italian"
"a reefer dirt cheap"
rounder French "forty mule"

and also they are bandying about "Hottentot" as cant for
assassination -- is this obvious? Not to me, not a clue...
