p. 841 "Bosna-Brod"..see p-wiki....BUT from an older history of Bosnia add this: "nowhere else in Bosnia has industry made greater strides"......

  p. 841..as prey, there is sometimes a "fatalistic submissiveness" and a stoic
refusal to cry out sentimentally...
----A way to survive by careful self-suppression, silence and persistence?
----Is a "fatalistic submissiveness" the way most humans have lived, survived since the modern age, the industrial age? But the Traverses and a few others act differently.
----AtD is full of birds of prey...and happy, non-prey birds ala Mason & Dixon most closely (and some in Vineland). See birds piece in the wiki...P likes birds who are a barometer...???
