Last page for the day. I think I'm caught up and I have a few pages
stashed. At two pages a day (plus one) I should finish next Sunday
May 3.

876.5 Yashmeen: " 'You went out there,' she said, 'when you didn't
have to. How was I supposed to feel?'"

She's pissed at Cyprian and is going to get her revenge - or - at
least that's how it starts - and Cyprian, being Cyprian, fully
accepts his position.
* revenge again - a new kind

***************************
876.9-15

"And then one of those silences fell, and a curious thing had
happened to time, for although they were the same people they had
been when he had stepped on board the S.S. John of Asia last year,
at the same time they were two entirely different people who had no
business being in the same city together let alone the same room, and
yet whatever it was between them was deeper now, the stakes were
higher, the danger of how much there was to lose terribly,
incontrovertibly clear."

Great passage - totally AtD. Changes, impending doom or
something, foreshadowing. Have they fallen out of Time?

***************************

876.21-.22 "... days without shaving or changing his collar and
dittoes..."

* dittoes - a matching coat, waistcoat and trousers - a suit
http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/Di/Dittoes.html
***************************

876.22-.23 "... on the assumption that he was all but invisible
before the public gaze."
Dirty equals invisible? This is the state of his self-esteem. He's
becoming dirt.

***************************

876.30-31 "Most who met him found it difficult to reconcile his
appetite for sexual abasement - its specific carnality - with what
had to be termed a religious surrender of the self."

carnality - I think in this case it may be defined as "feeling
morbid sexual desire or a propensity to lewdness"
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/carnality

and there is definite relationship to Buddhism - loss of self

***************************

876.31-.33 "Then Yashmeen entered the picture..." and knew
immediately exactly "... what she was looking at."

***************************

876.37 - 877.3 - Yashmeen is getting bored with the political,
suburban type life and its "diminished payoffs." She wants to
"transcend" that. Cyrpian is like minded to an extent, but Cyprian
wants to "transcend" pain. Yashmeen is willing to help him get there
- and he can help her desire to inflict it.

*** This seems to contradict the text a page earlier where it is
apparent that they are so different they should not even be in the
same town. But Yashmeen sees the connection where Cyprian does
not. Lines .2-.3 above say he's "...not even particularly aware of
it."

They are so different - he wants pain and humiliation, she wants to
inflict pain and reap power (as she glimpsed in the Book of the
Masked - pgs 853/863).
