"The'57 team was loaded, but we did not make the playoffs," he said. "We had
four players who made the majors - Felipe Alou in center, Ramon Conde third,
Jose Pagan at second and Julio Navarro as one of our pitchers.

"The standout was Felipe. He had a cannon for an arm. He was as fast as a
halfback, and he could hit the long ball. It was not easy hitting it over
the left field wall at Pynchon Park, but he did it with regularity. A year
later, he was in the big leagues, playing right field next to Willie Mays."
