just some mutterings...
Robert Anton Wilson in _Masks of the Illuminati_ depicted
a scene wherein the young English aspirant, flushed with
study of the mysteries, goes to a poker game and - while
playing - realizes the symbolism of the cards as a living tradition
being enacted right then and there, and experiences a great illumination...
Reef, the gambler, draws the affections
of Yashmeen, who has worked out a system to win at roulette -
how apropos!
Although my first take was, what a mismatch - obviously
Kit and Yashmeen should have hooked up...
within the story, anyway, the system is real to her.
there was a girl in our high school who ran away from home,
and when I talked to her, she said she had been able to make
ends meet for awhile just by betting on horse races...
that intuition thing? (which I think I read that researchers are beginning to
believe is actually an ability to read the environment and
systematize more quickly)
i look forward to several different
interpretations of Reef and Yashmeen, Kit and Dalley (sort of)
and Frank and Stray, their professions, their trajectories in the
world, the role of the wheel metaphor (wheels inside wheels)
et al...
