I want to add this belated thought.....Yashmeen and Reef win at roulette despite hoouse odds.....the roulette wheel seems to tie in to P's book-length wheel metaphors, from Wheel of Becoming [ see wikipedia], through madalas through ferris wheels---and circus motif---thru
roulette wheel (and everything else I'm forgetting or missing).

Suggestion: that Y and Reef just win at roulette and the world as a circus is another book-length metaphor, I think it is safe to say Pynchon shows the decline of "wheel"s as meaningful from its religious down to simply making money.....a less overt decline than V.'s,
but still, one of P's deepest themes: Decline.
