Idle Zoyd, Crappy Vineland?

Some good replies to my original 'sunlight' query, thanks.
I note, with a shudder, that a certain old-time p-lister is back, and dissing Zoyd, Vineland and Pynchon yet again. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I don't intend getiing into a pissing match, and if this flares up I am definitely not hanging around, but just this once I think it's only fair to point out:
I don't see Zoyd as 'idle', and my instincts (and experience) tell me many other Pynchon fans share this view. In fact I'd go so far as to say that I'd bet most of us feel immediate affection for, and in more than a few cases, identification with Zoyd. I think someone seeing Zoyd as idle marks that person out as being on the opposite side of the 'Culture Wars' from Zoyd and from Pynchon. I see that kind of person as being on the side of the Brock Vonds and Ronald Reagans of this world.
As for Pynchon having been idle, given that his next two books after Vineland would be huge and hugely accomplished, after which he'd very quickly offer us another, unexpected, 400 page novel, surely indicates that he has been anything but idle.
And if a person thinks Vineland is full of crap, maybe that person'd be better hanging back from yet another Group Read?
Cheers
JC
