TRP manages to foresee:

. . . and still gets to be a luddite blowing up TV screens. How cool
is that?

Isn’t it strange that Pynchon’s description of "Scum of the City," &
"Third World Thrills" parallels “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City”,
software for modern Violence Center Simulators, or “Video Games,” as
they are popularly known. And:

As of July 2006, Vice City was, in the American market,

the best-selling PlayStation 2 game of all time.

The lightly filled in detail:

Zoyd was barely ahead of the white water here, nearly taken
under by the surge of demographics and earnings projections
the kid was coming up with.

Indicates that “R-2-D-2” might be smarter than Zoyd previously gave
him credit. But of course, there’s a catch:

"And it won't cost you a penny."

"Uh-huh. How much will it cost me?"
