There are some interesting "coincidences" regarding the list
re-read of VL at this time of cataclysmic economic change-
enough to make the Johnny Copeland quote more than a little
ironic.

 p. 21, Penguin- '97:

  Prairie: They "love" it when you owe money.
  Zoyd: Not like I owe it, Prairie- if the whole
           project went belly-up, they'd take the house.

While working class foax have always been at risk, the whole
project of Reaganomics begun in the 80's did not go belly-up
but underground during the Clinton years, only to re-emerge
into the light of day under GWB. Now, of course, the real
effects of de-regulatory budget cuts are coming home to roost,
with night falling on the "second day" of Reaganomics.
