ok, ok, I skipped the most important thing: Hector's bringing Frenesi
into the conversation.

He leaps unsmoothly ("he had come, with these falling years, simply to
rely on going in" p29) from pretending to wonder if any of the kids
that are annoying him are Zoyd's

to, "You know what I'm sayin, asshole"  (and that "'sayin'" with the
little accent is one of the 2 orthographic oddities pevading the book,
the other being "didt'n"; definitely not BBC English, but frequently
heard in the US, both signs of emphasis, and almost a prole badge...)

to "Your wife."   (BAM!)

Everybody probably knows that feeling when you love somebody; and
somebody mentions their name, and you try to be cool.
"Zoyd began stabbing and restabbing his enchiladas with a fork while
Hector waited him out.  'Uh, well how's she doing?'"

"Yah, hah, hah, hah," trying to keep from sobbing
(who could play Zoyd?  Sean Penn?)

"She wa'n' spoze to Hector, that was never part of the deal."
a) there was a deal (such a deal)
b) trying to keep it together, not wanting to break down in front of
Hector (who might break down himself: "Hector's eyes were moist, and
popping out some." p26)
c) so Hector's actually letting him off the hook by haranguing about hippies
