VL--IV, from dihedral to Dark Ocean

p. 57 dihedral = The V-shaped bend in the wing [design]. A cantilever is a beam supported on only one end. Another use is in airplane wing design. This hotel, cantilevered into blue space, is described/designed like an airplane. Anyone know it from the area?
       
 lanai = A porch-like room or open-sided living room.
