INHERENT VICE (Exploring the cover)

Pynchon's had final say on the covers of his books for some time now, so I
doubt he finds it particularly insulting at all.  Recall, also, that the
first cover of 'Vineland' was a repurposed photo by Darius Kinsey.  Same
basic deal.

And pardon me for sounding cranky, but it's a bit premature to start picking
apart I.V. on the basis of its *cover*.  Whether you think P's been off his
game for the last two-odd books or not doesn't signify.  Noise is eating
signal, here.
