Point taken about the original Vineland cover.
But I never said I thought Pynchon would find it insulting, I was just talking about how it seemed to me. I don't presume to second guess what Pynchon might think of such matters.
Dunno if you're being 'cranky', but you are being a touch rude. I'm not 'picking apart' anything, in fact I cautioned against prejudging this book by its cover.
And I for one don't think he's been off his game at all. ATD was a classic, M&D also.

Recall, also, that the first cover of 'Vineland' was a repurposed photo by Darius Kinsey. Same basic deal.And pardon me for sounding cranky, but it's a bit premature to start picking apart I.V. on the basis of its cover. Whether you think P's been off his game for the last two-odd books or not doesn't signify.
