Moin Michael, > I've got an idea, let's draw up a schedule of off topic discussions (-; I realize you feel me. Fine. Neither am I the first nor the second nor thethird person here to question the fruitfulness of permanent group-reads. If you're here since a former century, this duracell-bunny-like pseudo-activity can really make you sick. Most of the VL-stuff sent here recently got over the years postedagain and again and again and again ... Don't get me wrong: Of course it's alright to post Pynchon-quotes as well as it is to do this with good research results. Myself I included aninteresting Vineland quote in a posting just a few days ago. But therehas to be a new context to open up another perspective! And by newcontexts I don't mean the all too simple possibilities of the so called "Web 2.0". During the 'ATDDTA' some of the hostings read as if the folks were eagerly looking for a job in the tourism- or gastro-industry ... About 1/3 of the group-read-postings are merely self-referential. "Oh, I see there's a holliday-season to come and so I don't think I can post allthose wonderful notes I prepared while reading. Maybe later, but now there are relatives in the house, it's that time of the year, you know ..."Worse than Spam, ghostly chit-chat. There were group-readS of both, Col49 & VL, in this still beautiful place.Plus thousands and thousands of P-mails relating to the issues in question. All in all not too bad. This can, I guess, still be found in the archieves. On the other list where I'm participating for more than a decade there oftenpasses a whole week --- sometimes even several! --- without anybody posting. But no one gets hysterical or thinks the whole thing is broken. They just respect the fact that --- as somebody once put it HERE --- "all things go through cycles". Couldn't we need a motherfucking moment of Silence? The pseudo-active group-read mania on this list is actually an avoidance
of communication.
