I live in California (not near the Oregon border) and we call them  
bluejays (or jays) even though they might technically be scrub  
jays.   They squawk a lot and steal so they're not popular.  I had a  
suicidal jay dive-bomb into my window screens for a few months.  They  
don't really live "together" but there'll be a whole batch of them in  
a tree.   I can't quite imagine a "squadron" of them "stomping  
around"  anywhere.   Surely this is a leftover from the dream?
