Magical in Pynchon: Starting with V.?

There are numerous sections in V that are contrary to "realism," but I
don't think these are necessarily "magic."  Like:

- the fantasy place of Vheissu (see this cool album cover for the band
Thrice designed by Dave Eggers:

- the iridescent Vheissu monkey under the arctic ice.
- The talking crash-test dummies and the teeth
- The spherics messages
- The waterspout that swallows Stencil's father.
- The rat congregation you mention
- The evolving identities of V (as well as Paola - the anti or
uncorrupted V counterpart)
