I saw this when it opened. I liked it too.
Last night I watched the 1996 version of Romeo and Juliet with
Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, and I loved it! It was set in a
city somewhat like Miami and LA combined with Romeo Montague as the
leading a gang of Caucasians (& one black) against the rival Hispanic
Capulets. The swords are now handguns, but the language is the
old-school Shakespeare, edited for screenplay. There is ample fast
action and humor, especially in the movie's beginning. It is well
done and very entertaining.
