I agree. When it comes to media representations of Hispanic males, Hector
Zuniga reminds me more of, e.g., The High Chaparral's Manolito (a childhood
idol of mine) than Touch of Evil's Vargas, or Ricardo Montalban whom he is
wont to impersonate (VL 23). Likeably, goofily reckless (i.e., your ordinary
Pynchon character).
