OMG! That's so hideous! I had forgotten about that
coke com. Unfortunately, I actually remember kind
of liking it when it first came out, sorry to say. I
guess I used to like coke (cola) back then, too.
I remember sort of thinking that we had
even begun to change big business, so they
had to start responding to our values. I thought
that was kind of neat. I must have been
delusional.
It does suggest something, though. We may
not be able to change the system with our
votes, or our protests, or even our rock and
roll, or art, but we can certainly have an impact
by changing our patterns of consumption.
Amazing how quickly the market responds-
witness gas prices. The better half of me
wishes they would stay high. The market
is working against our best interests. How
do we fight back against our own greed?

...There's no question that the new medium of TV was used to attack the
counter-culture. We take it as a given now, that Dylan will huckster
lingerie, The Band will hawk verizon, etc., but I remember the shock
value of the opening battle-cry that appeared in 1971, marking the
first time they took "our" idealism and commodified it:
