I mentioned before, it was "clamorous descent"
that led me to this lovecraft text, which upon
reading, has many similar ideas P used in ATD:
cf: ATD journeys
In 1909 I spent a month in the Himalayas, and in 1911 roused much attention
through a camel trip into the unknown deserts of Arabia. What happened on those
journeys I have never been able to learn.
During the summer of l9l2 I chartered a ship and sailed in the Arctic, north of
Spitzbergen, afterward showing signs of disappointment.
Later in that year I spent weeks - alone beyond the limits of previous or
subsequent exploration in the vast limestone cavern systems of western Virginia
- black labyrinths so complex that no retracing of my steps could even be
considered.

The Shadow Out of Time
cf. buried meteorite/beast exceeding ship.
They were only partly material - as we understand matter - and their type of
consciousness and media of perception differed widely from those of terrestrial
organisms.

The Shadow Out of Time
cf. The meritious price of the redemption of christ:
Through projection, arrangements were made to inflict these penalties on the
offending minds in their new future bodies - and sometimes forced reëxchanges
were effected.

The Shadow Out of Time
cf. sub-sand travel (and it's yuckiness)
Within the dreams I seemed gradually to acquire a greater and greater freedom of
wandering. I floated through many strange buildings of stone, going from one to
the other along mammoth underground passages which seemed to form the common
avenues of transit. Sometimes I encountered those gigantic sealed trap-doors in
the lowest level, around which such an aura of fear and forbiddenness clung.

The Shadow Out of Time
cf. submerged mural.
They bear evidence of water action, as if this part of the world had been
submerged and come up again after long ages - all since those blocks were made
and used. It is a matter of hundreds of thousands of years - or heaven knows how
much more. I don't like to think about it.
