On 2/5/08, Glenn Scheper began to cook with gas:
> Hey -- this is MY section:
go, man, go!

> filling response, Foley's knife versus Reef's cigar.
> What else is parallel?
> The relationships.

so true!

rereading with that statement in mind, I just got
that Ruperta's friend Algernon knew the painter
Hunter Penhallow at some time in the past.
Algernon's memory includes the fact that Hunter -
and his whole side -
disappeared right in the middle of a cricket game.
(so he was able to walk away - or is his meeting
Algernon now a "slow return of the repressed?")

you mean, for instance(s):
Kit/Reef rivalry for Dalley (subdued, but present?)
Kit/Reef rivalry for how to off Vibe
in Kit's mind revenge winning over love for math
in Reef's mind the pleasures of the flesh vying ever more successfully
with revenge
Pert-Algernon-Reef triangle (Reef also dashing back
to hotel to probably make it a quadrilateral)
Dalley's affections split betw Venice, Tancredi and Hunter
as well as Kit
Fencing between Dalley and Ruperta smote me with
a smile, a snort and even a laugh with Dalley claiming
to be Eleanora Duse..."researching a role"
(although cf pg 676, if Dalley/Ruperta is not
unlike Ruperta/Yashmeen - "As this process of counter-feinting,
flirtation, and deception carried its own low-intensity
erotic energy...")
