"All right." Chuckling into a cloud of evil smoke.

Oh, Dahlia...
However, Amenaide is secretly in love with Tancredi.

Good points!
And entering an explosion was Lew's transformative moment!

My first acute psychosis, an ego-dissolution-and-expansion
and existential crisis, had many explosive aspects:

- I told my father a big candle on the coffee table was a
bomb; and if I lit it, the entire world would blow up.

- I became aware of the double atomic explosions over Japan,
as if they were a world-changing event whose wave-front had
just reached me; In fact, I see it now as the (also explosive)
expansion of my consciousness into the entire universe, which
wave-front passed through the past-time events of those bombs.

- Drugged immobile in a psychiatric crisis center, engaged
with a sunbeam (another exposive process) coming through the
blind, I thought that my body was quaking severely with the
dread that I myself was a time-bomb, my heart beat a timer
which upon every beat, was about to expire, and destroy the
entire universe.

Emily Dickinson writes "blown to powder", which surf finds,
unfortunately not her, but...

to be really high off marijuana/cocaine

  Urban Dictionary: blown

The Powder Tower (blown-up tower), built about the middle of the 15th century,
originally only three-storied, diameter 80 feet; the centeral beam of the
cylindrial interior is a shift twards the interior of the castle so tha the
circular wall is reinforced in the direction of the enemy from 11 feet to 21
feet. The fourth storey with a smaller diameter, erected under Friedrich IV
(1592-1610) permitted a free outer gallery. The French miners did a thorough job
here in the year 1689 when they blew up the tower from the centre. Nevertheless,
the excellent masonry of the blown-up part has held to the present day.

Also WTC was blown up by explosions.

Nothing was blown to bits. The concrete was blown to POWDER. There were
practically no concrete chunks, but tons and tons of fine DUST. WHY?

Digg - Constitutional scholar: 9/11 'highly convenient' for Bush power

Which reminds me; One aspect of my psychosis seems to be a
prophetic interpretation of the WTC event; Which I also see
in the Divine Comedy sequence when Dante meets Beatrice...
http://home.earthlink.net/~glenn_scheper/help_yom_teruah.txt
...which I interpret further as: Dante and Beatrice INHABIT
AND ARE the two towers, the "king and queen" of New York,
as do all the saints past and present, which thereby "know"
the significant eschatological event of the 9-11 WTC attack.

Which further reminds me of Dante's mention of lightning,
strange in that it does not cease, but continues brightening,
which is as my perception that in AF, one has not merely
"come", but has become "coming". Which reminds me of Paul's
discussion of the "less comely parts" of The Body. "I AM
THAT I AM BECOMING."

The lightning in Divine Comedy:

Purgatorio: Canto XXIV

And lo! a sudden lustre ran across
On every side athwart the spacious forest,
Such that it made me doubt if it were lightning.

But since the lightning ceases as it comes,
And that continuing brightened more and more,
Within my thought I said, "What thing is this?"

Which of course, recalls Lew's eating of Cyclomate
as yet another trope on AF as explosion.

All this mess of heaps and hillocks is strung and filthied over with broken
bodies and ruined gear. There is nothing whole, nor alive, nor clean, in all its
extent; it is a place of ruin and death, blown and blasted out of any likeness
to any work of man, and so smashed that there is no shelter on it, save for the
one machine gunner in his box.

And many more "blown" hits in that page.

DROUGHT

(triple sec)

dry, dry, dry

weeds, blown to powder

adobe, cracked and crumbled

tongue, parched

nostrils, full of dust

cheeks, cracked

eyes, caked.

skin, blistered

soul, shattered

by hopeless constant baking

shh! Listen. What is that low

distant rumble?

Is it hope?

Is it the song of Isaiah

escorting blossoms back

to our desert?

  DROUGHT

Yeah, it's a bit manly for the SF crowd. Every time I read it, I imagine Chow
Yun Fat calmly saying it before emptying his uzis in some poor schlub's chest
from two feet away, watching the victims arms pinwheel and his legs jerk
involuntarily as little red globs burst from his chest and he gives us that
classic action movie grimace (which continues to contort the whole time, because
even though his spinal column has been blown to powder, he still feels every
single shot). Then he turns to the henchman off to his right, and stabs him in
the shoulder, killing him immediately. Just like a real man would.

And it goes on and on. 4 US soldiers blown to atoms, 2 Iraqi policemen meeting
the same charming fate. Paul Bremer says "it's incredible the progress that's

But a more lasting scar was the destruction of Afghanistan's treasures, the
statues of Buddha which stood for thousands of years blown to powder.

  Countdown to World War 3.

Windows shattered at the overpressure generated by the blast. The storefront of
several stores, including Dominic's Deli vanished…blown to powder by the force
of the explosion. Dust kicked up by the explosion created an impenetrable
man-made curtain.

The entire vehicle was gutted. Airborne for minutes, it was a moment of full
blown, well, chaos. Thankfully everyone survived; miraculously, there was nary
even a broken bone. But it left the band terribly shaken.

Lamentations of the Sage, Manus

Areas of a hundred leagues in extent crack and are thrown upward by the wind,
blown to powder in the sky, and annihilated. The mountains which encircle the
earth are cast up, reduced to dust, and destroyed. A hundred thousand times ten
millions worlds, the cosmic wind blows and destroys. At this blast of heavenly
displeasure, the earth groans, the ocean flees, and the very sky hides in
terror.

"When a world cycle is destroyed by wind," says the Buddhist text of the "World
Cycles," the wind also turns "the ground upside down, and throws it into the
sky," and "areas of one hundred leagues in extent, two hundred, three hundred,
five hundred leagues in extent crack and are thrown upward by the force of the
wind" and do not fall again but are "blown to powder in the sky and
annihilated." "And the wind throws up also into the sky the mountains which
encircle the earth ... they are ground to powder and destroyed." The cosmic wind
blows and destroys "a hundred thousand times ten million worlds."
