The reviewer writes:
"Against the Day, despite its size, reads like a novel of more modest goals [as compared to GR]."
I doubt that TRP's goals were more modest, but I agree that, in general, the book "reads" this way (in that the writing is mostly less astonishing than that found on virtually every page of GR). Yashmeen's letter on p.748-750 is an example of this. It tends to answer more questions (her feelings about TWIT and Kit, for example) than it asks.
