Theign rambles on about the theft of the torpedo plans...
Later (hours, days, weeks?)...Derrick reveals that
the Vienna branch lost track of Misha and Grisha,
and Cyprian may have to go back...
knowing his man, perhaps, he has stimulated "rectal fear"
and Cyprian for survival brings on the charm and
Bob's your uncle, a scene that would have to be cut
if "ATD the movie" is to be PG.

(oh, and I forgot, page 706 seems to indicate
that Cyprian and Theign were actually living
together in Venice, as in line 4 "*They* were soon cozily,
all but domestically, established..."

707 1 "observation from overhead" - Padzhitnoff!
are we to intuit a connection betw Padzhitnoff and Rocco/Pino?

(I can't remember if such was broached, quick text search
hasn't yielded mention (3 desiderata - for ATD to be opened to
Amazon search, for an e-book, and (like somebody on the list
has mentioned) for a premium edition (signed might be asking too
much, but some little perk for true fans, like maybe hemp-paper and
soy ink in keepinig with the tree-hugger passage in GR...))
-- I wonder if smart drugs would help me remember things
-- I've tried some...can't remember if they worked)

707 3 "masking device" - hmm, for real? sounds more
like a Chums thing...

707 15 "Misha loved the place, Grisha hated it"
Cyprian had gotten to know them; they weren't
Tweedledum/Tweedledee to him...

707 23 "They may want you for a bit back at the Metternichgasse"
seems to be a street in Vienna with a bunch of embassies on it,
including the British...
http://www.unido.org/file-storage/download/?file_id=41832
has directions in case we need to go there
http://preview.tinyurl.com/2xuk5q has a pic

707 26 "Ashby de la Zouch" this is such a bizarre place
name that I thought it was made up for the Adrian Mole books,
but it's real. I don't think there's great significance other than
it's a quiet town, and that Cyprian cuts a wide romantic swath,
but you never know with Pynchon.

707 37 "various abrasions" - hmm,hmm,hmm, Cyprian
dealing out pain as well as taking it...

*** 39 lines per page, it seems. Wonder if there's
any numerological significance there? ***
