Von Braun in the Rainbow

I just watched a PBS documentary on Tesla. I admit I hadn't gotten a
baseline knowledge of him yet. He received visions. He was in Colorado
Springs, Pikes Peak, places like that, Chicago worlds fair, New York, doing
these massive wireless energy projects at the same time of ATD. He also had
a dream that provided a vision for tuning-in and receiving radio signals
from more than one frequency. Also cf to Von Braun for flat footed evil vs.
tragically mis-interpreted: Tesla's inventions would be both intended to:
a) prevent war and do category-killing for power generation, making it free
and b) the same objectives could be flipped, his machines to aid war, with
Strategic defense initiative, and if power generation could be accomplished
at 1 site, create a giant monopoly on power? It's this push pull that's the
heart of what stimulates our author, and ourselves to speak passionatly and
flamingly about this sort of thing.

          Kai Frederik Lorentzen:
PS: Where is that "Enochian material" in AtD?

I have to apologize, I've only read Against the Day 2 & 1/2 times. The
third
reading is following with the rest of the group on-line. So my obs. on
encrypted
or obscure material isn't up to the level of Crying of Lot 49. But Nicholas
Nookshaft is a clear parody of Alistair Crowley and the "T.W.I.T.S." of the
"O.T.O.". Crowley considered himself the heir of John Dee's Enochian
system.
Besides which, the Theosophists, the Golden Dawn and a host of other
seekers of
the light are flourishing during the time-span of Against the Day and in
greater
frequency and density than in any other book by Pynchon. The Chums of
Chance
themselves are perceived by some as a force of Angelic intercession.
Hamilton
recieves the "vision" of Quaterninions [turns out Quaterninions got revived
for
computer animation]. Frank recieves a vision thanks to the workings of
Shaman El
Espinero. And, as per usual in Pynchon, the magic still works.

          If Gravity's Rainbow has a macro-political agenda, it's an
          ecological one.

"God gave Noah the Rainbow sign", and you all know what OBA thinks of
signs,
don't you? If L.S..D. has a macro-political agenda, it's an ecological one.
With lots of Rainbows, to boot.

Ain't you the guy who keeps insisting on the satirical bassline
in all
          of Pynchon's books?

Yup. I also see Pynchon as being aware of the satirical bassline of
Christianity.
